Four generations of design excellence and community care
By Like Media Team
Seldens, a name associated with quality and craftsmanship in the Pacific Northwest, has been elevating homes since its humble beginnings in 1940. The family-owned business has reached its fourth generation while maintaining a strong dedication to its guiding principles of integrity, innovation, and active community involvement.
The recent grand opening of the Bassett showroom in Bellevue underscores Seldens’ dedication to offering quality home furnishings in a welcoming environment. As a third-generation leader, Scott Selden, President and CEO, shares, "Our commitment to bringing tailored furniture solutions to the heart of the Puget Sound region inspired the Bellevue showroom." This new location fills the void left by the closures of Redmond and Tukwila’s Bassett showrooms. It is a thoughtfully designed hub where clients can experience the synergy of Seldens and Bassett’s dedication to quality.
Jake Cross, General Manager and fourth-generation member of the Selden family, shares, "Our Bellevue showroom combines cutting-edge design displays with the warmth and personalized service that Seldens and Bassett are known for." The space reflects the Pacific Northwest’s aesthetic while inspiring creativity and collaboration, offering clients a seamless and elevated shopping experience.
Seldens’ family values are the cornerstone of its operations and influence every company decision. "Our business began in 1940 with a commitment to quality, integrity, and community—a legacy that continues today," says Vice President and third-generation leader Loni Cross. Seldens treats clients like family and emphasizes long-term relationships. Its values resonate throughout its personalized design consultations, which clients often describe as working with a trusted partner.
Over its 80-year journey, Seldens has achieved significant milestones, from establishing its home furnishings destination in Tacoma to expanding into Bellevue by acquiring Masin’s Fine Furnishings in 2015. The company’s 2022 acquisition of Summer House Patio, known for its quality outdoor furniture, and its recent introduction of the Bassett Bellevue showroom underscore its dedication to growth and service excellence.
"Our long-term vision is to continue expanding our footprint in the Pacific Northwest while staying true to our roots of quality and personalized service," notes Nick Selden, Vice President of Sales and part of the fourth generation at Seldens. Plans include exploring virtual design consultations, enhanced digital customization tools, and sustainable practices to align with modern design trends while offering custom furniture to cater to distinctive client preferences.
Beyond furniture, Seldens is deeply committed to community involvement, partnering with initiatives such as Because of Lola, a campaign raising funds for childhood cancer research, alongside local organizations like the Northwest Furniture Bank. “This year, Seldens’ annual Coat Drive for Kids is working in partnership with the Tacoma Police Department, encouraging the community to donate new or gently used winter coats to help keep children warm during the colder months,” says Loni. These efforts allow Seldens to give back to the Puget Sound community while creating meaningful connections.
Seldens’ collaboration with Bassett is a testament to shared values. "Bassett shares our dedication to craftsmanship, personalization, and customer satisfaction," emphasizes Scott. Together, they offer clients American-made, customizable furniture, transforming houses into homes with care and creativity, enhanced by designer home decor.
As Seldens looks to the future, it remains focused on maintaining its leadership in design services and growing with the communities it has served for generations. "The new Bellevue showroom represents our dedication to innovation, quality, and community," shares Jake. "We invite everyone to visit and experience the difference that personalized design and craftsmanship can make in their home."
With over 80 years of experience and an unwavering commitment to quality, Seldens continues to build a brighter future—one home at a time.
